Press conference “Market of private student dormitories in Poland and in the world”

On Thursday, this year’s January 25, H15 Boutique in Warsaw held a press conference for the media entitled “Market of private student dormitories in Poland and in the world”. Participants of the event were, among others, representatives of trade media, leading consulting businesses, higher education institutions and development-investment businesses. The organiser of the event was Metropolitan Investment S.A.

During the meeting, an original market report of Metropolitan Investment S.A. was presented, which concerned the market of private student dormitories in Poland and in the world. The presentation of the report was accompanied by a discussion with the author as well as partners from consulting businesses on the market of real properties and higher education institutions.

The following participated in the panel: Wioleta Wojtczak – Head of Research Savills, Wojciech Duranowski – rector representative for international cooperation at Collegium Civitas, Rafał Kroczak – Analysis Director at Metropolitan Investment S.A. and Robert Jaś – vice-president of the management board of Metropolitan Investment S.A. The discussion panel was hosted by dr Małgorzata Bonikowska – lecturer, president of the Centre for International Relations and a partner managing the dialogue and analysis centre THINK THANK.

Market vistas

In talks, the issue of various vistas for a new category on the commercial property market was touched on, including the demand for private student dormitories on the local market, a growing number of students coming to Poland from abroad for educational purposes and facilities offered by investors as competition for public student dormitories. All those factors determine the use by investors and developers of the market niche in the segment of private student dormitories.

The vice-president of the management board of Metropolitan Investment S.A. – Robert Jaś – presented the business profile of the company and potential areas of investments on the profitable property market. Among the selected private projects, there were two investments being implemented Gdański Harward and Olimpijskie Apartamenty.

Segment of private student dormitories

The market of private student dormitories is intensely growing in Western Europe and the USA. Even though more and more such projects are appearing in Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland, the market here is still quite fresh. The speakers emphasised that currently somewhat less than 15% of full-time studies or 10% of students in general can count on lodgings in public student dormitories. This situation gives perfect opportunity for private investors seeking interesting projects offering an above-average rate of return.
